Rooftop Gardens strives to transform unused spaces into centres of food production. There is immense potential to convert rooftops, balconies and other urban into spaces that can provide affordable organic food year-round, green cities, reduce carbon emissions, and improve food security. Why rooftop gardens? Urban areas offer an abundance of unused, flat, open rooftop spaces, balconies, and backyards that are often perfectly suited for vegetable gardens. Rooftop Gardens Inc. (“RGI”’)’s comprehensive design process develops unique, innovative, lightweight, modular, and customizable kits that allow urban residents to easily grow healthy, better tasting, organic food year-round on suitable unused spaces. These gardens foster community building, increase food security, serve private citizens, restaurants, community groups and schools. Greenhouse gas emission reductions are achieved through decreased food miles, organic production, storm water diversion, and reduction in the urban heat island effect through greening of urban spaces.
